Minute of Listening

In autumn I'll be working again with Sound and Music to help roll out a trial of their new Minute of Listening project in Cornwall. A fascinating idea, and the sort of thing I would have loved at school!

The City Rings

From September I'll be providing background support for Cornwall based sound artist Cat Lee Marr who's working with Sound and Music on a project called The City Rings.

The City Rings involves young people from a school in Cornwall sharing sounds recorded in their local environment with young people from a school in Barcelona and vice versa. It's based on a project run recently by composerPippa Murphy in Scotland and documented here .

High View School Project

The majority of sounds and conversations are now online and available via Radio Aporee. Simply click on one of the red dots to listen. As mentioned previously this builds on work last years work with Efford Take a Part. I will also be working with the community in June to help support local people to devise and deliver their own tours of the estate as part of a retrospective of arts projects carried out over the past couple of years.

High View School Project

The recordings of the children at High View talking about their school are now complete, and I'm now working on indexing and editing them ready for uploading to Radio Aporee. The children were great and very talkative, so I have 2hrs of audio to drawn from!

High View School Project

I start today on a short project to document the sounds and voices of High View School in Efford, Plymouth. This builds on work last year with Efford Take a Part. The sounds will be uploaded to Radio Aporee.

Sound and Music Summer School

Good couple of days with young composers at the Purcell Music School in Hertfordshire running soundwalks as part of the Sound and Music Summer School. There's a video of the summer school here.

Sound and Music Summer School, August 2010

Over the next couple of days I will be working with students at the Sound and Music summer school at Purcell School in Hertfordshire. We'll be thinking about sound and soundscapes and doing soundwalks. Details here.

INSTAL 09

Will be working on with schools as part at INSTAL festival, Glasgow in March 2009. The project involves both sound walks and visual poetry.

Listening to Regents Park with the RSPB

Catriona Corfield - education officer for the RSPB's Wild in the Parks project in London - who attended one of my Creative Use of Sound courses in Birmingham has just published the results of a sound based project in Regents Park. She linked up with the British Library sound archive wildlife archivist and their local City Learning Centre oversummer to produce little photo stories with children from a local estate. Click here to view the results.

Photo stories can be created with free piece of software from Microsoft called, appropriately enough, Photostory 3, which can be downloaded here. It's simplicity itself to use, but you do need Windows Media Player 10 or above to run it.

Walk your ears

In May I worked with artist Martin Prothero on a project called Walk Your Ears run by Dartmoor based contemporary arts organisation Aune Head Arts. The results have just been published online here.
